WOYWW 250

Doesn't a week just fly by...Wednesday has came around again which means its WOYWW time...where we get to share our crafty spaces around the globe ...check out Julia at the Stamping Ground to take part. You are in for a shock today my usually tidy desk is definitely not this week ...the photos shocked me !...these was taken at 7 pm last night and has generally been how my desk has looked since the weekend.
Yes it is my desk

Its' been hard no to tidy everything away but I dont have the time to work on it a little and have the time to tidy in between, I decided last week to try something a bit different and out of my comfort zone and have been messing with chalks, ink, paints, gilding flakes and MDF. I still hate the feeling of ink and paint on my fingers but it did not stop me this time ...which is progress!
long shot with more chaos to see

My first attempt the finished heart is a Easter gift tag for a friend ... is ok but not quite what I had hoped for, I must be doing something wrong with the gilding flakes as they went quite dull and all crumbly and sticky when I was rubbing it in and removing the excess. I'm not sure whether my paint surface was still damp or too much glue ???..it worked ok on paper when I did a daft run, so I'm not sure where I went wrong? Second time around I cheated and inked and stamped onto card, cut to size and glued directly onto the heart... I'm not quite sure how I am going to decorate this one yet...but will keep you posted. I hope you have had a enjoyable and productive week and we get to share in the fruits of your labour... I love it and look forward to seeing what you've been up too. I'm on an early start again today so will be back after work to visit. Have a good day and thanks for visiting. Crafty hugs Andrea x

  1. I've never worked with gilding, so I have NO idea how to help you with your problem. But I'll admit your desk is well used this week (grin). Happy WOYWW from #2.

  4. I've worked with gilding and I do know that the you should use the right glue and it has to set before you add the gild. I hated having to wait for the glue to get to right stage to add in the gild usually because I would leave it to long and gave to redo it lol happy woyww hugs Nikki 3

  6. I've not used gilding flakes for ages, and don't think I've ever tried on mdf, so I can't help either... It looks pretty from here though!! Hope you sort it . Love the busy desk. Helen 9

  7. Nikki is right .. like all things it is fussy not that I have used loose leaves - as mine is on tissue and 23 carat gold which is easier to use that other type of leaf... glue I use part dries tacky then sets after 48 hours.
Have fun with inky playing. happy WOYWW Shaz in Oz.x #32

  8. I am not sure which glue you are using? I use flitter glue. Make sure there is nothing wet on the paper e.g. ink, sprays, don't apply too much glue to the stamp, just dab it lightly. If it's flitter glue you don't need to wait you can apply the gilding flake straight away. Rub the excess gently with your finger to remove it and then rub over with the sponge. Hope this helps, Angela #35

  10. busy desk! Love all the bright colors and that Easter tag is awesome. I haven't seen any daffodils blooming around here yet but it was really warm today so it shouldn't be long! Have a great week. Thanks for sharing. Vickie #45

  11. Hi Andrea - lovely spring desk his morning. Your friend will love her Easter tag I am sure. I find building flakes tricky too - keeping the little devils on a project or in their storage container being the hardest thing of all to do!!!! Don't sneeze Andrea!!!! or you will be the gilded one ;-) Have a great week and happy WOYWW to you from Helen 61 x

  15. Lovely tag Andrea. Not tried flakes on MDF, it could be that the background was still damp. I did manage to blur some of mine when I did it on card by being over-zealous with the rubbing off, so maybe it was still a little damp? If you can get some, try some of the Judikins Sticky Stuff embossing powder, I liked that much better than the glues. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #38 xxx

  17. Well, I am a little shocked Andrea, this is definitely the untidiest I have ever seen your desk - still not a patch on mine though!
I'm unable to help with your gilding flakes - mine are still in the box they came in - your heart looks fine to me though and I love your gorgeous daffodils.

  18. Hi Andrea, thank you for your visit and comment.
A quick answer to your Question....... I stamp each image onto a blank sheet the same size as the laminate and stick it to an acetate sheet. If you enlarge my desk image you will see a couple of said finished sheets. I then store them in reseal bags standing them up in a storage container.
I like what you are doing with your hearts. As for the flakes, I use a stippling brush in a dabbing motion rather than scrubbing. I think scrubbing is just too harsh, leaving only a slight covering. Hope this is of some help for you.

  19. I can't help as I've never used gilding, sorry. I love your tag with the beautiful daffodils. My eyes went straight to your paint tin, what I wouldn't do to get one of those. I only have a little travel one, they are really expensive over here. Even though you say your desk is messy it's still very organised, unlike my total chaos :)
    Have a great week.

  22. Lovely busy desk and very much tidier than mine. About the gilding flakes, have you tried working on double sided adhesive acetate? You stamp your image with archival ink on the one sticky side. Then seal that with the acetate. Rather than me continuing to explain very badly, just take a look at Barbara Gray's blogpost - http://barbaragrayblog.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/perfect-pearls-under-sea.html The acetate protects all your work and leaves it shining beautifully. Thank you for your visit this week. I am so late returning the compliment but going to the NEC means that I am playing catch up all week now. I was quite good with my list to start with, but then I lost my list, and got sucked in by all the fantastic stencils on offer on the Clarity stand. There were so many brilliant show offers there and it would have been rude not to take advantage of them, wouldn't it? Hope you have a really good week. xx Maggie #76

. Although she is using Perfect Pearls on this one, the same technique applies to the gilding flakes. You are not dealing with with anything wet that could dull the shine and shimmer.
